Reps seeks to reduce revenue leakages

Collection of revenue by over 60 government agencies is a major cause of revenue leakages in the country over the years.

Addressing the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zach Adedeji  said that a lot of internal restructuring have been introduced since assumption of office, noting that revenue collection, duty should be sole responsibility of the FIRS in order to ensure greater accountability in the system.

He also advocate for a single window method of tax collection to make the process less cumbersome and block leakages.

Chairman, House Committee on Finance, Hon James Faleke  demanded to know if the proposed single window revenue would mean well to the Customs, NIMASA, NPA and all the major revenue collectors and if the collection would be subject to the FIRS alone or collecting revenue on their behalf.

Faleke further lauded the initiatives to ensure that payments are made directly to the contractors and not the MDAs.

Meanwhile, the House committee on delegated legislation has called for the unwavering commitment of MDA’s under its purview to discharge their duties to Nigerians

The Committee chaired by Hon. Olufemi Bamisile stated this while meeting with some agencies under its watch at the House of Representatives.
