After a sharp increase in the price of gasoline at the pump in surrounding nations, the Federal Government on Monday expressed concern about the resumption of smuggling of the commodity.
According to the report, the average cost of gasoline in Nigeria was N701/litre, while in surrounding countries, the same product cost N1,787/litre. This difference has led to an increase in PMS smuggling out of Nigeria over the last two weeks.
Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, revealed this information at a press conference in Yola. He stated that in order to combat the threat, the NCS and the Office of the National Security Adviser have to work together.
