In response to the widely shared video of him falling at Eagle Square in Abuja on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu declared that democracy is something that is worth embracing.

During a 2024 Democracy Day event in Eagle Square, Abuja, Tinubu slipped while getting on top of the vehicle. However, he rapidly regained his equilibrium and carried on with the day’s activities.

During a commemorative day, Tinubu made light of the incident and declared that he had just “dobale”—a Yoruba term for paying homage to democracy.

He said, “I ‘dobale’ for democracy,” which is to say, I bowed for democracy, while we were celebrating democracy.

During the dinner, President Tinubu also urged Nigerian unity regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.

He asserted that Nigeria’s unity could not be exchanged.

Reactions from various Nigerians, including opposition members, have been coming in since the occurrence.
