Minimum Wage: States Should Determine What They Can afford, Says Fayemi

Former governor of Ekiti State Kayode Fayemi has advocated for the decentralization of minimum wage talks in an effort to resolve the ongoing problem of the national minimum wage.

This was said by Fayemi, who was also the governor’s forum chairman, on Channels Television’s Politics Today show on Friday.

The question of the federal minimum wage is one that every governor must address. We should decentralize minimum wage negotiations and let states negotiate with their own labour unions while the federal government conducts its own negotiations because the fingers are not equal, according to Fayemi, who served as governor and chairman of the governor’s forum. This belief has persisted up until this most recent negotiation.
