There are 17 confirmed cases of cholera in the state, according to the Lagos Ministry of Health.

Professor Akin Abayomi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, revealed this information during a speech about the measures taken to contain the outbreak in Lagos State. In a statement released on Saturday, the ministry stated that 350 suspected cases of cholera had been reported in 29 wards spread across many LGAs in Lagos State, with 17 cases confirmed and 15 deaths thus far.

Nonetheless, Abayomi was quoted as stating that the state’s cholera case count is declining

According to test findings and laboratory analysis, Cholera sub-type O-1 has been confirmed thus far. More severe illness is linked to this subgroup. According to our continuous surveillance and monitoring updates, the pattern of new cases every day differs between LGAS, the health commissioner stated in the statement that was signed by the ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo.

Symptom Reporting
“Facilities inspections are ongoing,” he declared. All around the State, we are prepositioning cholera kits in medical facilities. Oral rehydration solutions (ORS) are being distributed as part of our attempts to contain the outbreak, along with public health awareness initiatives.

In order to slow the spread of cholera, especially as Eid-al-Adha draws near, the commissioner urged Lagos State citizens to carefully follow preventative measures, collaborate with health authorities, and take part in community-wide cleanliness initiatives.

He stated, “It’s also critical to report symptoms like vomiting or watery diarrhea right away in order to save lives and stop the illness from spreading to other community members.” “All government facilities offer free treatment for suspected cholera as part of the government’s normal public health response.”
