Finidi George Resigns As Super Eagles Coach

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George, resigned following a dismal sequence of matches during the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

On Saturday, the former Nigerian international gave Channels Television confirmation of his resignation.

Indeed, it is accurate. In answer to questions, he wrote, “I have resigned.”

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not yet responded to this development, though.

George guided the Eagles to a 1-1 draw at home in Uyo against South Africa and a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic in Abidjan, severely jeopardizing Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup.

Nigeria had already played two draws in the qualifiers under former coach Jose Peseiro, and these two results prolonged their winless streak in the competition.

Nigeria is currently ranked fifth in Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualification list, ahead of only Zimbabwe.

Many fans called for George’s dismissal after the Nigerian team’s dismal showing in the two games under his leadership.
