The Federal Government of Nigeria on Wednesday said that the next 180 days (January 2025) will see a sharp decline in food costs due to the strategic measures put in place to address the country’s high food prices.
FG claimed that the steps would address the increase in food costs, this includes importing 500,000 metric tonnes of wheat and maize, suspending customs levies and taxes on the importation of specific food items over land and sea borders.
Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security revealed that imported food products will be subject to a suggested retail price to maintain the necessary and acceptable standard.
The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) emphasized how domestic food production has been inadequate while expressing hope that the Government would properly execute the policies so the prices of staple foods in Nigeria would drop.
