Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has ordered a thorough inquiry into the building collapse that resulted in 22 fatalities and 132 injuries, as well as the immediate closure of Saint Academy School.
The governor, accompanied by the principal and personnel of the school, issued the order for the closure of the school after touring the site of the fallen building in the Busa Buji, Jos North Local Government Area of the state, to assess the situation.
“Although the incident is regrettable, it naturally indicates that this school will close right now. We must convey this message, especially to the proprietors of private schools, since we cannot afford to take any more chances, stated Muftwang.
“The desire for financial gain must not take precedence over people’s safety. In order to make sure that people can live in such facilities, we will act right now to do a technical audit of every school and assess the structural integrity of each one.
On Friday during class, the school building gave way. The 132 injured people are being treated in various hospitals, while the deceased bodies have been placed in various state mortuaries.
“154 persons had been pulled from the wreckage as of 6:00 p.m. In a statement released on Friday night, Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication Musa Ashoms stated, “Unfortunately, 22 people have been confirmed deceased.”
“Various hospitals throughout Jos are providing medical treatment to injured students and staff.”
“The government has ordered all major hospitals in Jos to prioritise treating the victims, regardless of documentation or payment, in order to ensure prompt medical attention.”
