Armed Forces Need 200 Million Ammunition Yearly — Matawalle

As part of efforts to secure the nation and protect her territorial integrity, the Minister Of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, says the Armed Forces of Nigeria requires two hundred million rounds of ammunition annually for its operations.

According to him, the Federal Government will have to pay at least $2 for each round due to the volume.

At the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of an ammunition production factory in Nigeria between the Ministry of Defence, through the Defence Industries Corporations of Nigeria (DICON), and the National Agency for Science and Engineering (NASENI), in Abuja on Wednesday, the minister revealed this.

He attributed the country’s inability to become self-sufficient in the manufacture of military gear to previous administrations.

Matawalle gave Nigerians the assurance that the Defence Industries Corporation will export its military prowess through domestic military gear production over the next three years.
