Vice President Kashim Shettima has charged the Rural Electricity Agency (REA), to double efforts to accelerate Nigeria’s journey towards universal electricity access and ensure Nigerians get more access to power supply.
In order to gain access to state governors and involve them in the effort to electrify villages across the nation, he thus approved REA’s request to form a cooperation with the National Economic Council (NEC).
Shettima reported in a statement posted on X account that the Vice President received a presentation on the National Electrification and Implementation Plan (NESIP) in his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday. The team from REA was led by its Managing Director/CEO, Abba Aliyu.
This comes shortly after the organisation announced that the World Bank and African Development Bank (AFDB) had awarded it a $750 million grant for rural electrification initiatives throughout Nigeria.
