In response to the ongoing shortage of gasoline in Abuja, Niger, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and numerous other states, the Federal Government has threatened to revoke the licenses of oil marketers found guilty of stockpiling the fuel, also known as Premium Motor Spirit.
For a long now, several states—particularly those in the north—have had persistent gasoline shortages. As a result, numerous fuel stations have had to close since there isn’t enough inventory.
But the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of the Federal Government has warned oil marketers that their licenses will be revoked for filling stations that stockpile gasoline and then sell it to illicit marketers in jerrycans.
In a video clip released by the regulator during an inspection tour in Abuja, Ogbugo Ukoha, the Executive Director of Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure, NMDPRA, issued the warning.
