The agency added that the oil had allegedly been trans-loaded into the ships from an edible oil facility in a post on X on Wednesday.
NAFDAC representatives led the tankers to a processing facility in Sango-Ota because of concern for the possible health concerns resulting from chemical contamination from the tankers’ prior use for delivering petrol.
“The agency stated that the crude soy oil was subsequently turned over to the Southwest Zonal Office of NAFDAC for additional regulatory action.”
A NAFDAC official stated in an attached video that the identical tankers that were used to carry vegetable oil had also been used to load petroleum goods, citing reliable information. The video also included footage of one of the seized tankers.
This is a matter of public health that has to be addressed by NAFDAC. That’s why we headed over there right away, and we saw a truck getting loaded,” the official said.
He said the trucks were impounded for additional investigation and the suspects were taken into custody.
The officer stated that “at the same time we are seeing tags of petrol and diesel on them” and that the tankers are unable to carry vegetable oil.
