Speaking at the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) summit and sensitization program in Rivers State on Thursday, Akintunde Sawyer, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, made this revelation.
He said that the fund had covered the tuition costs for twenty thousand students at six different universities: Bayero University, Kano; University of Ibadan; University of Benin; University of Maiduguri; and University of Ilorin.
President Bola Tinubu’s premier initiative in the field of education is the rollout of the student loan program.
When he signed the Access to Higher Education Act, the President established the fund. This act establishes a legal framework for lending money to low-income or destitute Nigerians to help them pay their tuition at Nigerian post-secondary educational institutions.
