Kolawole Ojelabi, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s spokesperson, made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday.
The Red Line Rail is one of the six rail lines and one monorail that LAMATA’s Strategic Transport Master Plan specifies for Lagos.
The trains will conduct four daily excursions between Agbado and Oyingbo, carrying people at will.
Since many Lagos employees and business owners live in Ogun State, it also serves as a transport project linking Lagos with Ogun State.
According to Ojelabi, the milestone signified the completion of technical and ground personnel training and planning, the installation of all security systems, and a successful six-week trial run without passengers to guarantee the efficiency, safety, and dependability of the system.
In order to gather input before the start of commercial operations, the Red Line system will engage with non-paying passengers in structured groups starting on Wednesday, August 28.
The partial operations, which resemble those carried out during the Blue Line’s test phase, represent a significant advancement towards the realization of the Lagos State Government’s goal of an integrated, modern, efficient, and sustainable transportation system.
“The first phase of the Red Line, a 27-kilometer rail road from Agbado to Oyingbo, will reduce traffic congestion and improve the quality of life for residents of Lagos,” stated Ojelabi. “It will provide a reliable and affordable transportation option for commuters.”
