The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited said in a video clip that over 72 illicit installations for refining crude oil were discovered in the previous week.
According to reports, 72 illicit refineries were found and demolished in the states of Rivers, Delta, and Abia.
In the Southern Ijaw region of Bayelsa State, on August 18, it was reported that a vessel carrying twelve suspects was apprehended by members of Operation Delta Safe.
According to the NNPC, “the tugboat was discovered loaded with stolen Shell Petroleum Development Company flow lines, which indicates that the thieves not only broke the pipelines to connect their pipes but also harvested oil pipelines.”
The 12 individuals who had been detained were reportedly being held for additional investigation.
It was also reported that 24 wooden boats carrying stolen oil were intercepted in the states of Rivers and Bayelsa, and that 46 violations of the vessel automatic identification system had been reported at sea.
