Petrol Price Hike: NANS Ready To Meet Tinubu, Dialogues With Dangote, Oil Marketers, Lokpobiri

This has happened as a result of the student body’s insistence on carrying out the organized statewide demonstration against the rise in petrol prices.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) leadership has declared that should the necessity arise, it is prepared to meet with President Bola Tinubu to discuss its demands for the reversal of the recent hike in the price of petrol, also known as petroleum motor spirit (PMS).

In an interview with Channels Television in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, David Bariereka, the secretary of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), disclosed this information.

To find a solution that would lessen the burden on the general population, he claims that the student body is now in talks with important players in the petroleum industry, such as businessman Aliko Dangote, oil marketers, and the Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil).

The development comes after the student body insisted on continuing with the planned statewide protest over the hike in petrol prices.

The nationwide strike was originally scheduled for September 15, 2024, by the group.

During a guest appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily last Friday, Henry Okuomo, the Senate President of the NANS, expressed the union’s dissatisfaction with the current state of hardship in the nation and stated that the union was capable of holding the government responsible.

“We are not threatening a strike,” he declared. Given the current state of affairs in the nation, that is exactly what we intend to accomplish. Nigerians are dealing with a lot right now. The government has raised fuel costs once more although we are already experiencing hardship. This has an impact on us as learners. We now have no option except to fight for the people as student leaders.

With more than 40 million Nigerian students studying there, we hold one of the biggest shares in the nation.
