2.3 million Children are at risk of death as a result of vaccine-preventable diseases. These Children mostly in hard-to-reach areas have not been immunized. However, they can still be protected if vaccinated adequately.
Celine Lafoucriere, Chief of UNICEF Field Office, South West Nigeria who disclosed this at a media dialogue on routine immunization said “Vaccine remains essential to children’s health, it is a Fundamental human right and fundamental to improving health outcomes and reducing in equality”
To address this challenge, UNICEF in partnership with the Government and other Partners have prioritised areas with the highest concentration of zero-dose Children.
The plan is to increase the rate of vaccinated Children by 50 percent each year and 30 percent by 2025.
Lafoucriere also appealed to the media to assist in sensitizing Nigerians on the importance of vaccines.
