According to the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the Federal Government will launch a new rural energy project financed by the World Bank in November to supply 17.5 million Nigerians with electricity.
Abba Aliyu, the Managing Director of the Agency, made this announcement. He also mentioned that his organisation intends to use renewable energy sources to give tertiary institutions affordable energy choices.
According to him, the Distributed Renewable Energy Scaleup initiative is intended to use renewable energy sources to provide up to 17.5 million Nigerians with electricity.
“For instance, we are launching a new project next month called the Distributed Renewable Energy Scaleup project, which is a $750 million project financed (by the World Bank),” stated Aliyu. The project’s goal is to electrify 17.5 million Nigerians, and from what I gather, this is one of the most ambitious initiatives in the world.
“This is a project that we are initiating because, except for India, which has helped a lot of people who aren’t connected to the grid get access to energy, no other country has an ambitious project like this.”
