The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has accused the Libyan Football Federation of deliberately mistreating the Super Eagles in the North African country.
As they got ready to honor their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match against the Mediterranean Knights, players and officials were delayed for hours at an airport in Libya on Sunday, without access to food or the internet.
The crew was eventually given the all-clear to depart Libya after diplomatic efforts and social media appeals.
“One of our greatest airports is Port Harcourt, where they landed. No situation will result in a team’s football players lying on the ground at Port Harcourt Airport,” he stated. In contrast, rejecting the Libyan team’s claims that their players were treated poorly during their opening match in Nigeria.
“All of these things were purposefully made to inspire some fantasy. If there was a problem, it ought to have been brought up right away.
He also discussed the diplomatic and non-diplomatic measures taken by the Nigerian government to address the matter.
