As of October 13, 2024, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reported 14,237 cholera cases in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory, involving 339 local government units.
At a press event on Thursday in Abuja, NCDC Director General Dr. Jide Idris announced that 378 people have died from the sickness thus far.
Cholera is still a major public health concern, according to Idris, especially in places with poor water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure.
However, he stated that in order to stop the spread and save lives, the centre was collaborating with partners.
As of October 13, 2024, a total of 14,237 cases of cholera have been reported across 35 states and the FCT, spanning 339 local government areas. Sadly, 378 lives have been lost, resulting in a case-fatality ratio of about 2.7 percent. The burden of this outbreak disproportionately affects the most vulnerable – children under the age of five.
