Nigeria Sign Agreement with Ericsson to Promote 5G Technology Development

According to the Presidency, Vice President Kashim Shettima led other Nigerian authorities in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria and telecom behemoth Ericsson on a 5G Innovation Lab.

The agreement aims to increase Nigeria’s technological capabilities and rank it among the world’s top 5G network users in terms of productivity.

Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications (Office of the Vice President), disclosed this information in a statement released on Friday.

He noted that the MoU, signed on Friday at Ericsson’s Global Headquarters and Research and Development Lab in Kista, North of Stockholm, Sweden, was witnessed by Vice President Shettima, and Ericsson’s Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Middle East and Africa.

Peter Olusoji Ogundele, Country Manager, Ericsson Nigeria, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the telecom behemoth. In contrast, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, signed on behalf of the Nigerian government.

The fifth generation of cellular networks, or 5G, is predicted to be 100 times faster than 4G, opening up previously unheard-of possibilities for people, companies, and technology worldwide.

Tijani highlighted the significance of the MoU and said he was confident Nigeria would benefit from 5G technology because of its extensive coverage, which will accelerate the country’s economic development.
