“Stampede: Oyo Children’s Funfair Organizers Arrested.” – Gov. Seyi Makinde

The organizers of a children’s funfair, where several people are feared dead due to a stampede on Wednesday at the Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, Oyo State capital, have been arrested.

Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed their arrest and stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident.

He shared this information in a statement on his official X account on Wednesday.

Makinde also assured that measures have been implemented to prevent further fatalities while expressing his condolences to the victims and their families.

The governor stated, “Earlier today, an incident occurred at Islamic High School Basorun, the site of an event organized for families. Unfortunately, a stampede at the venue resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.

This is a deeply tragic day for Oyo State. Our hearts go out to the parents whose joy has been tragically turned into mourning due to these deaths.

“We have taken immediate action to prevent further fatalities by deploying security personnel to restore order at the venue. Medical staff and ambulances have also been sent to the scene. The event has been halted, and attendees have been safely escorted from the venue. We are implementing all necessary measures to secure the location.

“While investigations are ongoing, the main organizers of the event that caused the stampede have been taken into custody.”
