President Tinubu Cancels Official Engagements, Expresses Condolences for Victims of ‘Preventable’ Stampedes

President Bola Tinubu has canceled his official engagements in Lagos following multiple stampedes during food distribution events in Abuja and Anambra State. The tragic incidents, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, resulted in several deaths and numerous injuries.

Labeling the stampedes as “avoidable,” the president decided to cancel all his scheduled activities, including his attendance at the 2024 Lagos Boat Regatta, as a mark of respect for the victims.

“President Bola Tinubu canceled all his official events in Lagos today, including attending the 2024 Lagos Boat Regatta, in honor of the stampede victims in Abuja and Okija, Anambra State,” said presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga in a statement released Saturday afternoon, following the devastating events that have shocked the nation.
