President Tinubu to Attend Mahama’s Inauguration

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior officials would accompany Tinubu on the trip.

President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Lagos on January 6, 2025, for Accra, Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Mahama on January 7, 2025.

A statement released on Sunday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed the trip. Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th president from 2011 to 2017, was re-elected in December 2024. He will succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo, who served from 2017 to 2025.

Onanuga explained that President Tinubu’s visit to Accra is in response to an invitation from Mahama, who had visited the Nigerian leader in December. He also emphasized the longstanding personal relationship between Tinubu and Mahama, as well as the strong bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ghana.

Tinubu, as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, would join other African leaders at the ceremony.

Onanuga said the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior government officials would accompany Tinubu on the trip.
