Lagos Unveils N500m Subsidy Intervention Funds for Poultry Fish Farmers

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to launch a ₦500 million intervention fund “Ounje Eko,” farmers’ subsidy programme from next week Wednesday, February 5th, 2025.

Abisola Olusanya, the state commissioner for agriculture and food systems, announced this at a news conference held at Alausa Ikeja on Wednesday.

According to her, the Lagos State farmers’ subsidy program aims to provide more than 23 million people with affordable, domestic food sufficiency.

In order to guarantee fair product pricing for end users, she said, the intervention program will be carried out in cooperation with the private sector and other agriculture sector partners.

The farmers include poultry, crops and fish farmers, with the government supporting them with tractorisation services for crop production as well as distribution of bags of fertilizers.

The commissioner further explained that the objectives of the programme are to sustain and improve production levels, ensure a steady supply of poultry and fish products in the market, prevent further farm closures and mitigate food insecurity in the state.

The initiative, she noted, is a crucial step in the broader agenda to reduce over-reliance on food imports, and strengthen local food production and the overall agricultural value chain in Lagos State by supporting farmers from production to market distribution.
