Alleged Assault: Portable Arraigned, Granted ₦2m Bail

Controversial singer Habeeb ‘Portable’ Okikiola was yesterday arraigned at the Isabo Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The 30-year-old was declared wanted for allegedly assaulting officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA). He had ignored police invitations following the arrest and arraignment of nine of his protégés before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court.

Portable was arraigned on a five-count charge: conspiracy, assault, and restriction, armed with cutlasses and guns, conduct likely to cause harm. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

On February 6, his nine proteges were arraigned for similar charges. After pleading not guilty to the charges, his counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, urged the court to grant him bail.

Ayodele assured the court that the suspect “is now remorseful and has learnt his lessons.” Magistrate O. L. Oke granted N2 million bail with one surety in the like sum.

He adjourned the case till March 5 for trial.
