President Bola Tinubu has proposed the establishment of reconciliation committees to engage with dissatisfied members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tinubu stated this on Wednesday at a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee held at the National Secretariat in Abuja.
“The rest of the world, the economy is unravelling, both in Europe and America. We are seeing growth, a gradual return to prosperity,” Tinubu said.
“The National Working Committee is doing a very good job and I am just happy with them.
“In all the various states let us set up reconciliatory committees to look into major problems in some states. I appeal to party leaders in some states to please be calm.”
On his part, the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, said the party has also embarked on reconciliatory moves which he said are already yielding positive results.
“We have also embarked on massive reconciliation of aggrieved party members, and this move is gradually yielding desired positive results for the party.
“Through dialogue, we have initiated high-level discussions among party leaders and other stakeholders intending to resolve lingering differences among our members. The Conflict Reconciliation Committee which you are about to approve will build on this,” he said.
He also weighed in on his achievements within the last one and half years, saying the party is focused on winning the Governorship elections in Anambra and Osun states.
Those that attended the meeting were the National Working Committee (NWC) members; Forum of State Chairmen; former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari; Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu; and Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu.
Governors of Edo, Benue, Ondo, Ekiti, Kaduna, Jigawa, Nasarawa, Yobe, Niger, Lagos, Kogi, Ogun, Imo, deputy governor of Ebonyi and former governors of Kogi, Kebbi, Niger, Zamfara, and Plateau were in attendance.
Conspicuously absent from the NEC meeting were former President Muhammadu Buhari; former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai; and former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi.
