The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land occupancy rights of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja due to the party’s failure to pay ground rent.
In a letter dated March 13, 2025, addressed to PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the Director of Land Administration at the FCT Administration, explained that the revocation was a result of the PDP’s non-payment of the required ground rent for 19 years, from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025.
The letter, titled “Notice of Revocation of Right of Occupancy With File No. MISC 81346 in respect of Plot No.243 within Central Area District, Abuja,” stated that despite multiple notices from the FCT Administration in national dailies and on electronic media since 2023 urging all landowners to settle outstanding bills, the PDP had failed to comply.
The letter further explained that this breach violated provisions of Section 28, Subsections 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act, and that as a result, the property (Plot No. 243, Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja) had reverted to the FCT Administration, which would take immediate possession of the land.
Wike, the only PDP member in the APC-dominated cabinet of President Bola Tinubu, has had a contentious relationship with his party leadership for the past two years.
