Rivers Assembly Backs State Of Emergency, Blames Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has expressed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state, following the ongoing political crisis that has persisted for more than a year.

In a statement issued by the Assembly’s Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, the Assembly placed the blame on the suspended governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, for his “despotic and tyrannical actions,” which included repeated defiance of court rulings, failure to govern according to his oath of office, and unconstitutional interference with the legislative arm of government, all of which contributed to the crisis.

“The Governor’s despotic and tyrannical actions, as confirmed by the courts, have unlawfully obstructed the Rivers State House of Assembly, which is at the heart of the situation,” the speaker stated.

Amaewhule described the President’s decision as being in the “best interest of the country” and urged the people to remain calm as the appointed sole administrator assumes control.

“We assure our constituents that we will adhere to this declaration, even though it was not our preferred outcome,” the statement read.

“Mr. President has acted in the best interest of the country, and we urge everyone to stay calm as the sole administrator, appointed by the President, steps into office in the best interest of our state and the nation.”

Full Support for the Administrator
Amaewhule assured constituents that the Assembly would respect the declaration and emphasized that the people of Rivers State should stay calm as the Sole Administrator, appointed by the President, begins his duties. He expressed confidence that the Sole Administrator would act in the best interest of both the state and the nation.

“The Rivers State House of Assembly fully supports the Sole Administrator and will provide any necessary assistance to ensure the restoration of stability and effective governance in our beloved state,” Amaewhule concluded.

The declaration of a state of emergency represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing political turmoil that has plagued Rivers State for over a year.
