Police Rescue 21 Kidnapped Victims, Recover N4.8m Ransom

The Nigeria Police Force says it has delivered crippling blows to organized crime, rescuing victims, apprehending key suspects, and seizing a cache of weapons and illicit funds in a coordinated series of raids throughout the first quarter of 2025.

In a statement on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi highlighted that recent operations represented a major intensification in the battle against criminal elements threatening the safety and security of Nigerian citizens.

He explained that many of these operations took place in Taraba State, where Police operatives from the State Command led a successful operation on March 29, 2025, along the Takum/Mararaba road.

According to Adejobi, the operatives, working alongside other security agencies, quickly responded to an ongoing kidnapping in Muji Town.

“A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the rescue of 20 kidnapped victims and the recovery of all vehicles abandoned at the scene. Two victims who sustained injuries are currently receiving medical treatment,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Kano State, a thorough investigation was initiated on March 8, 2025, following the kidnapping of Dr. Muhammad Bello Yushau, which led to a series of arrests.

“On March 18th and 19th, technical analysis helped police operatives from the state Anti-Kidnapping Squad apprehend Tukur Lawal, aka Maikudi, along with accomplices Ado Usman, Sanusi Surajo, Habiba Shuaibu, and Ummulkhairi Ibrahim.”

“During the arrest, authorities recovered a locally-made rifle and N4,840,000 in cash, believed to be ransom money. The victim was rescued unharmed and reunited with his family.”

In another operation, operatives from the Special Tactical Squad (STS), acting on credible intelligence, arrested Kafinta Musa, a male from Taraba State, in connection with armed robbery, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of firearms.

“An AK49 rifle, loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, was seized during the arrest. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining members of his criminal syndicate,” the statement continued.

The statement concluded with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commending the officers involved in these courageous operations for their bravery and professionalism.

The Force also called for continued public cooperation in providing timely information to support the fight against crime.
