The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has confirmed that all nine individuals injured in the ferry fire incident at Ipakodo Ferry Terminal on April 3 are receiving medical treatment and showing signs of recovery.
Epe Insights previously reported a fire incident involving the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) vessel, Igbega Eko, which occurred on Wednesday morning at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu.
The vessel, en route to Victoria Island, caught fire at approximately 6:45 AM.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) confirmed that six individuals—comprising passengers, LASWA personnel, and LAGFERRY staff—were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Ikorodu. “Medical staff are closely monitoring their conditions to ensure full recovery. Three additional individuals are being treated at a private hospital, with no life-threatening injuries reported.”
LASWA assured the public of its ongoing support for the victims and their families, emphasizing its close collaboration with medical teams to aid in their recovery.
Investigations into the cause of the fire on the Igbega Eko vessel are currently underway. The agency also stated that thorough safety reviews are being conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“We commend the prompt response of emergency services and appreciate the public’s cooperation during this incident,” LASWA said.
