Oba Owoade Crowned 46th Alaafin Of Oyo

Oba Abimbola Owoade has been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.

Owoade succeeds the 45th Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83.

The staff of office was presented to the new king earlier in January by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

He completed the mandatory 21-day traditional rites, known as Oro Ipebi, on Saturday, March 29.

The coronation ceremony took place today (Saturday) at Oliveth Baptist High School in Oyo, with Governor Seyi Makinde leading a host of dignitaries, including prominent Nigerians.

Among the dignitaries present were the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and the Aare Oona Kankanfo of the Yoruba, Iba Gani Adams, among others.

His coronation marks the start of the process of installing a new king for one of the most revered thrones in the Yoruba Kingdom.

Today’s event also heralded a new era for the sons and daughters of Oyo Town, the state, and the entire Yoruba nation, both at home and abroad.
