Police Arrest Portable In Kwara Over Alleged Defamation Of Fuji Star Osupa

Kwara Police Arrest Controversial Singer Portable Over Alleged Defamation, Threats

Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as “Portable”.

In an official statement, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that Portable’s arrest followed a petition submitted by Mr. Okunola Saheed, better known as “Osupa”.

According to the statement, the petition includes serious allegations such as criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, use of abusive language, and actions likely to disturb public peace.

“Given the gravity of the allegations and the supporting evidence, the Command obtained a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin,” the statement read.

“Based on this warrant, our operatives proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, April 13, 2025, and arrested the suspect at approximately 7:25 PM. He was immediately transferred to Ilorin for further investigation.”

Upon arrival, Portable’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. He is currently in custody, and preparations are underway to charge him in court without delay.

The dispute reportedly stems from Portable’s use of a line popularly associated with Fuji music veteran Osupa. The situation escalated after Portable made derogatory remarks about the Fuji singer on social media, sparking backlash. He later issued a public apology, blaming his actions on a moment of anger.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command has urged the public to stay calm and avoid spreading unverified information. The authorities emphasised their commitment to justice and promised to provide updates as the case progresses.
