The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce arrested 52 individuals during a late-night enforcement operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements from Lagos Island.
This was revealed by the Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement shared via X on Saturday.
The operation, which began around 12:35 a.m. on April 26, 2025, focused on key locations including Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel, and Ligali Ayorinde.
Wahab explained that the operation was prompted by a surge in complaints and distress calls about the increasing presence of miscreants, street urchins, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals in those areas at night—posing threats to residents and passersby.
During the sweep, 52 suspects—51 males and 1 female—were arrested, and normalcy was restored in all targeted zones.
“The operation is part of a broader clean-up and enforcement initiative scheduled to take place at least twice a week as the government intensifies efforts to rid Lagos Island of unlawful activities,” Wahab noted.
He added that all arrested individuals would be charged to court, reaffirming the state’s commitment to maintaining law and order.
