The Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA, are seeking a 90-day extension from a US District Court before they release documents relating to an alleged drug investigation involving President Bola Tinubu.
The investigation dates back to the 1990s.Their request was submitted in a joint status report filed with the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
The case was instituted following a series of Freedom of Information Act requests by Aaron Greenspan, who is an American legal transparency advocate and founder of the platform PlainSite.Greenspan wants the release of records connected to a Chicago-based drug ring.
He has named Tinubu alongside others including Lee Andrew Edwards, Mueez Abegboyega Akande, and Abiodun Agbele.
The FBI and DEA had been ordered by Judge Beryl Howell to provide a status update on the search and release of non-exempt documents by May 2, 2025.

However, in the latest filing, the two agencies claimed they needed more time to complete their searches.
