FG To Airlift Over 64, 000 Pilgrims For 2025 Hajj

The Federal Government has officially registered 64,188 Nigerians for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

This announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday during the launch of the first airlift of Nigerian pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj.

The ceremony took place at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State, marking the airport’s inaugural international flight.

In his address, Shettima praised Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State for promoting unity, religious tolerance, mutual respect, and inclusion by hosting the opening flight ceremony. He emphasized that the event symbolized Nigeria’s journey toward unity as a nation.

“I also want to commend Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State for fostering an atmosphere of religious tolerance, mutual respect, and inclusion. His support for this ceremony is both heartening and symbolic of a nation moving toward harmony,” Shettima said.

The Vice President also conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s best wishes to the pilgrims, stating, “The President, with his usual foresight, has ensured the necessary resources are available to ensure the success of the 2025 Hajj.”

He continued, “This commitment reflects our administration’s promise to protect, support, and uplift every Nigerian in all aspects of life.”

Shettima reminded the pilgrims of their role as ambassadors of Nigeria, urging them to respect the dignity of the Nigerian flag they carry. He emphasized that their conduct, devotion, and unity must reflect the values of the nation, as the success of the Hajj operation depends on everyone involved.

“Dear pilgrims, remember that you are not just spiritual travelers but representatives of our country. Your actions should reflect the pride and dignity of Nigeria. The responsibility you carry is significant and noble,” Shettima stated.

He further added, “The success of this Hajj operation depends on each of us. If anyone falters, whether a logistics officer neglecting a detail or a pilgrim forgetting the significance of the flag, the consequences could turn what should be a joyous experience into an avoidable disaster. We must ensure that does not happen.”

Shettima also urged logistics officers to approach their responsibilities as a divine duty, emphasizing the need to avoid past mistakes. He stressed the importance of ensuring that every pilgrim departs and returns with gratitude and without complaints.

“There is no room for negligence when lives, hopes, and sacred duties are at stake,” the Vice President warned.

Finally, he expressed appreciation to the leadership of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), as well as all those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, for their efforts in coordinating the 2025 Hajj and ensuring its smooth execution.
