CBN warns against fraudulent contract, grant offers

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has once again raised alarm over the continued spread of fraudulent offers falsely linked to the Bank, including fake contracts, loans, grants, and intervention funds.

In a statement released on Monday by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, the CBN warned that, despite a public advisory issued on November 18, 2024, scammers are still targeting Nigerians with bogus claims of opportunities allegedly endorsed by the Bank.

The statement revealed that certain individuals and groups are falsely posing as CBN agents or representatives, claiming they can provide access to high-value contracts or financial support purportedly sanctioned by the institution.

“The CBN reiterates that it has not authorised, licensed, or appointed anyone—individuals, groups, or organisations—to serve as intermediaries for offering contracts, grants, or intervention funds. We categorically deny any involvement in such claims,” Ali stated.

She emphasized that the CBN does not communicate unsolicited offers via emails, text messages, phone calls, WhatsApp, or social media platforms. The Bank does not demand fees for access to contracts or grants, nor does it use intermediaries to manage its financial intervention programs.

The public was strongly advised to remain cautious and avoid falling for such schemes. Anyone approached with these fraudulent claims is encouraged to report the incident to law enforcement or consult the nearest CBN branch.

Ali reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to safeguarding Nigerians’ financial interests, noting that it is working closely with security agencies to investigate and curb these deceptive activities. The public is urged to rely solely on verified CBN communication channels for accurate information and to ignore unsolicited financial offers bearing the Bank’s name.
