Four Dead As Vehicle Runs Into Pedestrians In Rivers

Four individuals have died in a tragic road accident that occurred along G.U. Ake Road in Rivers State.

According to reports, the crash took place around midnight on Monday when the driver of a Toyota Camry, bearing registration number ABJ 10 EM, lost control of the vehicle and struck a group of pedestrians.

In an official statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that four of the six pedestrians involved were pronounced dead at the scene.

“One Benson Peter Michael, a 36-year-old male and driver of the Toyota Camry, lost control and hit six pedestrians,” Iringe-Koko stated.

“Sadly, four of the victims died on the spot, while the remaining two sustained injuries and were promptly taken to BMH Hospital for treatment.”

She further disclosed that the driver is currently in police custody and that the vehicle involved has been recovered and moved to the station.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).

“The case will be handed over to the State Traffic Department for further investigation,” Iringe-Koko added.

She concluded by expressing the Command’s condolences and assuring the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated and justice served.
