Police Rearrest Suspect Linked to Slain Anambra Lawmaker Justice Azuka

Police in Anambra have rearrested Ikemefuna Ossai, a suspect linked to the December 2024 kidnapping and murder of state lawmaker Justice Azuka. Azuka, who represented Onitsha 1 Constituency, was abducted on December 24 and later found dead on February 6 on the Second Niger Bridge.

According to police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, Ossai was apprehended on May 7, 2025, in Asaba, Delta State, after being tracked across several Nigerian states and into a neighboring country. He sustained a gunshot wound while resisting arrest.

The police have informed Azuka’s family and state assembly leadership, acknowledging earlier lapses that led to the suspect’s escape from custody. Efforts are ongoing to capture the remaining fugitive and dismantle the criminal network involved.
