Tinubu sends ₦1.48trn 2025 Rivers budget to Nass for approval

President Bola Tinubu has officially submitted the 2025 Appropriation Bill for Rivers State to the National Assembly for consideration, following the suspension of the state’s House of Assembly.

In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the proposal emphasizes strategic investments across infrastructure, healthcare, education, and agriculture.

Infrastructure takes the lion’s share with a proposed ₦324 billion allocation. The health sector is set to receive ₦106 billion, including ₦5 billion specifically earmarked for free malaria medication. Education is allocated ₦75.6 billion, while ₦31.4 billion is designated for agricultural development.

In his formal request, President Tinubu urged the Senate to give the proposal swift consideration. The Senate has since referred the budget to its Ad-hoc Committee on Emergency Rule, instructing it to review and report back promptly.

Additionally, Tinubu has written to the House of Representatives, seeking approval for the Rivers State budget. He reminded lawmakers that the Supreme Court had nullified the 2025 budget presented by suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
