First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to disburse ₦50m grants to persons with disabilities

No fewer than 250 persons with disabilities across the country will receive grants worth ₦50,000,000 to support their small businesses.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, announced several humanitarian initiatives during a Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) event held on Friday at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State. At the event, she handed over food supplies to the state’s RHI Coordinator and wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti.

Represented by the wife of the Vice President and Vice Chairperson of the RHI, Hajiya Nana Shettima, Senator Tinubu revealed that the Flow with Confidence programme will distribute 10,000 packs of sanitary pads to young girls, especially in rural communities. The goal is to help girls stay in school throughout their menstrual cycle.

She explained that these programmes are part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at improving the well-being of Nigerians nationwide.

“In the area of economic empowerment, RHI will provide grants of ₦200,000 each to 250 persons with disabilities in every state and the FCT to help sustain and grow their small businesses,” she said.

She further emphasized that the Flow with Confidence initiative would provide a year’s supply of sanitary pads to support girls’ education.

According to a statement issued by Kwapchi Bata Hamman, Special Assistant to the President on Media and ICT (Office of the Vice President), Senator Tinubu also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fighting food insecurity and supporting vulnerable populations through the continued implementation of the RHI Food Outreach Scheme, which officially launched on March 8, 2024.

“As I hand over these essential food items to Abia State and the RHI coordinator, I encourage beneficiaries to use them for their families’ well-being. The RHI is delivering meaningful interventions across the country, and we are proud to see the positive impact,” she said.

Senator Tinubu also praised Mrs. Otti for her dedication and active support in ensuring the success of the RHI’s food outreach and other programmes within the state.
