Sixteen Boko Haram terrorists have been killed by troops of the joint task force, Operation Hadin Kai, as they attempted to infiltrate the 25 Taskforce Brigade headquarters in Damboa near Sambisa Forest.
Troops of the Taskforce Brigade, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), recovered a cache of weapons and materials used in the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during recent operations.
The engagement began around 1 a.m. on Friday, when troops detected a group of terrorists and launched a sustained indirect fire assault. After approximately two hours of intense combat, the terrorists were forced to retreat.
While several of the insurgents escaped with injuries, 16 were confirmed neutralised during the clash.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Northeast Joint Taskforce Operations Hadin Kai, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, stated that the success of the operation was supported by the timely intervention of the Joint Taskforce’s air component.
In a separate statement, the Nigerian Army reported that troops responded to intelligence about insurgents attempting to loot food supplies from a civilian vehicle near Rann, the administrative center of Kala Balge Local Government Area. During the engagement, six terrorists were neutralised, and one AK-47 rifle, along with ammunition, was recovered.
Additionally, on Thursday, troops from the Forward Operating Base Molai, supported by the CJTF, conducted an ambush on a terrorist crossing point near Komala along the Maiduguri–Damboa Road. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of an unspecified number of insurgents and the recovery of motorcycles, IED components, and other materials.
