The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 12 trafficked children from an illegal orphanage operating within a residential apartment on Ikot Ekpene Road in Aba, Abia State.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, the police revealed that two suspects were arrested for running an unregistered and unauthorised motherless babies’ home.
“During the operation, officers discovered twelve children, aged between six months and fourteen years, being housed at the location,” the statement read.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the children were trafficked from various villages in the Arochukwu area. The rescued minors have been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for appropriate care and rehabilitation.
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

In a separate development, the Kogi State Police Command intercepted a green-colored Sharon vehicle that sped through a security checkpoint.
Officers gave chase, prompting the driver to abandon the vehicle and flee into nearby bushes. A search of the vehicle uncovered a large cache of weapons, including five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 283 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 62 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x59mm ammunition.
