The Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission (LASERC) has officially prohibited individuals or entities from providing electricity services in the state without a valid licence or permit.
This directive marks LASERC’s first major regulatory action following the domestication of electricity market regulation in Lagos State.
Issued under the title “LASERC ORDER/001/2025,” the order formally places all electricity market operations under the exclusive authority of the Commission.
“This Order reinforces LASERC’s mandate to ensure a safe, efficient, and reliable electricity market in Lagos,” said Fouad Animashaun, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Commissioner of LASERC. “We are committed to upholding global standards and protecting electricity users and investor interests in the evolving power sector,” he added.
Under the new regulation, only permits issued by LASERC will be recognised for electricity-related activities within the state. The Commission warned that violators risk facing a minimum penalty of N20 million, along with a daily fine of N20,000 for ongoing non-compliance.
LASERC has also directed all unlicensed operators to cease their activities immediately and apply for appropriate licensing through the Commission.
