FG commences crucial grid servicing

Electricity consumers across Nigeria may experience blackouts as the federal government steps up efforts to stabilise the national grid through scheduled power outages, according to the Nigerian Independent System Operator.

Currently, at least six states in the Northeast remain without electricity due to an ongoing outage overseen by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, aimed at upgrading critical transmission infrastructure.

In a video statement released on Wednesday, Abdu Mohammed, Managing Director of the Nigerian Independent System Operator, explained that the blackout affecting Borno, Taraba, Adamawa, and Yobe states is part of a larger nationwide maintenance initiative that will eventually impact other regions as well.

This clarification follows widespread public concern after the Transmission Company of Nigeria began constructing a turn-in-turn-out on the 330 kV Jos-Bauchi-Gombe transmission line to link the new Bauchi 330 kV substation to the national grid.
