The Lagos State Police Command has reached an understanding with 15 civil society organisations (CSOs) regarding the conduct of the planned protests scheduled for Thursday, June 12.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, all parties agreed that Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota will serve as the sole approved venue for protests in the state.
The agreement followed an interactive meeting between Commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh and leaders of the CSOs.
The statement noted that while some of the CSOs intend to commemorate Democracy Day with peaceful celebrations, others plan to stage non-disruptive protests in line with public safety guidelines.
It was also agreed that all protest groups would first gather under the Ikeja Bridge before proceeding together to the designated venue in Ojota.
