Federal Government calls for immediate end to Iran-Israel hostilities

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel, urging both sides to show maximum restraint in the interest of regional stability and global peace.

In an official statement, Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar expressed deep concern over the recent escalation, characterized by sustained missile and aerial strikes between the two nations.

Tuggar warned that the continued cycle of retaliation threatens civilian lives and poses a serious risk to the stability of the broader Middle East, with potential consequences for international security and economic well-being.

He appealed to the international community—particularly the United Nations Security Council—to intensify efforts toward swift de-escalation and to promote meaningful dialogue between the parties.

Reaffirming that military solutions cannot substitute for diplomacy, Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s belief that lasting peace depends on negotiation, mutual respect, and adherence to international law. He also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to supporting all credible initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and fostering peace in the region.
