A pro-PDP faction, Bala Agents’ Mandate, has called on former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and ex-Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and unite with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to strengthen the opposition.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, the group’s Rivers State Coordinator, Amadi Chijioke, urged both leaders to abandon plans to form a new opposition coalition, warning that it would weaken efforts to rescue Nigeria from alleged misrule and democratic decline.
“I strongly believe in Bala Mohammed’s leadership to steer the PDP to victory. There’s no need to form new coalitions involving Atiku Abubakar and others. PDP is home,” Chijioke said. “I expect Peter Obi and Chibuike Amaechi to come back and join Bala Mohammed in rebuilding the party, as he currently appears to be leading alone.”
Supporting this stance, the group’s National Coordinator, Habib Musa, praised the PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bala Mohammed, as a credible and unifying force amid political uncertainty.
Musa condemned the recent defections of Delta and Akwa Ibom State governors to the APC, describing the moves as driven by fear and opportunism rather than ideology. He assured that the PDP remains strong and will reclaim those states through elections.
He also criticized the suspension of democratic institutions in Rivers State and the attempted closure of the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, accusing the federal government of using state power to intimidate opposition.
Addressing the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Musa urged him to join forces with Bala Mohammed and work toward PDP unity despite his current position in the APC-led federal government.
Marking 26 years of democracy, Musa emphasized the urgent need to restore democratic values and responsible governance.
