Anambra cult violence claims 2 lives, 2 others abducted

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of two individuals and the abduction of two others following a cult-related shooting in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.

Oko, which hosts the Federal Polytechnic, was thrown into chaos on the evening of June 19, 2025, when suspected cultists opened fire at Total Junction and Tipper Junction around 8:40 p.m.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, two other victims — including a woman — were rescued from the scene and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Ikenga added that a combined security team, comprising the Police, Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and local vigilantes, has taken control of the area. Investigations are ongoing, with officers acting on information provided by eyewitnesses to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

An eyewitness recounted that the attackers, who arrived on a motorcycle and in a black Lexus 350 SUV with no license plate, began shooting indiscriminately at Total Junction. Four individuals were hit, with two later abducted at nearby Tipper Junction before the assailants fled.

The Police Command has urged residents to remain calm, assuring the public that efforts are underway to track down the suspects. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
