Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah leads a six-man shortlist for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award, announced on Friday.
The 33-year-old Egyptian international was instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season, registering 29 goals and 18 assists. His stellar performance also earned him the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year title, winning nearly 90 percent of the vote — the largest margin in over two decades. He is widely regarded as the frontrunner for the PFA honour.
Salah is joined by Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes.
Palmer, who was named PFA Young Player of the Year for the 2023–24 season, surprised many with his inclusion on the senior shortlist despite Chelsea’s inconsistent campaign.
Declan Rice had a standout season for Arsenal, scoring a personal-best nine goals and contributing 10 assists across 52 appearances in all competitions.
Newcastle’s Alexander Isak impressed with 23 goals, playing a key role in their Champions League qualification and helping end the club’s 56-year trophy drought with a League Cup triumph.
Bruno Fernandes was a rare bright spot in a difficult season for Manchester United — the club’s worst top-flight performance since 1973–74 — contributing eight goals and 10 assists in league play.
